Products / Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish
(Britpop) Blur had faced a backlash, of sorts, after the commercially successful release of their first album, Leisure. Here, they rebranded, incorporating the influence of The Kinks and The Small Faces. Albarn's lyrics began to explore the "dreams, traditions and prejudices of suburban England", according to writer David Cavanagh. Despite only reaching number 15 in the UK Album Charts, critics lauded the record and, today, it is seen as one of the most important releases of the Britpop era. Highlight track: 'For Tomorrow'.
