Products / Joy Division - Closer
(Post-punk) As poignant a record as any, Closer was released by the Mancunian band two months after their lead singer, Ian Curtis, tragically took his own life. It's regarded by many as a seminal record and the final hour of the band before reforming, sans Curtis, as New Order. In some ways, the album is split in two, with half of it record in 1979, with more emphasis on a punk, guitar driven sound, and the other half in 1980, featuring synthesizers. The vast majority of the music resulted from jams the band had in their practice room, which gives it its "honest" sound. Highlight track: 'Isolation'
